NCC 2022 UPDATED ADOPTION TIMETABLE
NCC 2022 is now available, but will not be officially adopted until 1st May 2023.
The exception to the 1st May 2023 adoption date are the NCC 2022 provisions for
- Energy Efficiency
- Condensation Mitigation, and
- Liveable (accessible) housing
The provisions for these three areas will broadly come into effect on 1 October 2023. However, each of the States and Territories have their own adoption timeline when it comes to these provisions. Here they are in a nutshell:
ACT – has agreed to adopt NCC 2022 Liveability and Energy Efficiency Provisions, however the transition period and details are yet to be confirmed.
NSW – Under SEPP, BASIX NSW have agreed to adopt NCC 2022 provisions with energy efficiency, liveability and condensation provisions coming into effect 1 October 2023.
Northern Territory – NCC 2019 building energy efficiency provisions will be introduced in the Northern Territory for the first time for non-residential buildings. No information is available to date on residential building adoption.
Queensland – has agreed to adopt NCC 2022 provisions with energy efficiency, liveability and condensation provisions coming into effect 1 October 2023. The QDC MP4.1 will need to be revised to reflect this, however a timetable for the revision and release has not yet been advised.
South Australia – Yet to be advised.
Tasmania – The new condensation mitigation provisions will be adopted in line with the Australian Building Codes Board transitional period on 1 October 2023. The liveable housing provisions will come into effect from 1 October 2024. Consideration of the 7-star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) energy efficiency rating provisions will be deferred until the next iteration of the NCC in 2025.
Victoria – has agreed to adopt all NCC 2022 provisions, with a transition period from 1 May 2023 to 1 October 2023.
Western Australia – has agreed to adopt NCC 2022 provisions, with a transition period for energy efficiency, condensation and liveability provisions from 1 May 2023 to 1 May 2025.
BERA is across all the legislative changes and timetables, and is able to assess both Commercial and Residential buildings for Energy Efficiency by whichever is the appropriate legislation at time of assessment.
